In 1988, Maria Kitsopoulos appeared as soloist with The Continuum Ensemble in Alice Tully Hall. Since then, 
she has performed as soloist with The Phoenix Symphony, The Westfield Symphony, The Graz Orchestra, and 
many others. Her New York debut recital at Merkin Hall was sponsored by The Guild of Composers and the 
Alexander S. Onassis Foundation.
 Miss Kitsopoulos is an active performer of contemporary music with groups such as the The Continuum 
Ensemble, The Guild of Composers, and Music Mobiles. She has traveled throughout Europe with The Ensemble 
Intercontemporain of Paris, France. In New York, Maria Kitsopoulos performs regularly with The Orpheus 
Chamber Orchestra, The Orchestra of Saint Luke's and The New York Chamber Symphony. She has been 
awarded a series of scholarships and awards throughout her career. As well as being a finalist in the first 
Emannuel Fuermann Cello Competition and a prize winner in The National Society of Arts and Letters Cello 
Competition, she has been awarded fellowships for study from both the Aspen and Tanglewood Music Festivals.
 
 Maria Kitsopoulos is a member of the four cello ensemble, CELLO. This very popular group travels throughout 
the United States playing music specially commissioned by them. With CELLO, she has performed at The 
Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, and Merkin Hall, as well as numerous colleges and universities throughout 
North America, dedicating many performances to the works of Peter Shikele, Meyer Kupferman and Reza Vali.
 
 Upon receipt of both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from The Juilliard School, she was awarded the Peter 
Mennin Prize for outstanding leadership. Her teachers have included Jerome Carrington, Ardyth Alton, Scott 
Ballantyne and Aldo Parisot. Miss Kitsopoulos currently serves on the faculty at The Juilliard School, where 
she is a candidate for The Doctor of Musical Arts Degree. Since the 1997-1998 season, Maria Kitsopoulos has 
been a member of The New York Philharmonic Orchestra.
